ARM partners with Intel Custom Foundry, ARM chips for LG on the way?

Today via Twitter and their blog, ARM announced that they are partnering with Intel Custom Foundry in an agreement that will put ARM SoC hand-in-hand with Intel’s 10nm process. This means that ongoing development of the Artisan Physical IP will move forward with Intel technology.

This has the potential to expand the ARM ecosystem substantially while simultaneously giving Intel customers access to ARM implementation solutions. This is expected to be a long-term relationship for the two companies.

In their blog post, ARM noted that what sets their Artisan platform apart is ARM POP technology, adding that, “The initial POP IP will be for two future advanced ARM Cortex-A processor cores designed for mobile computing applications in either ARM big.LITTLE or stand-alone configurations.”

Furthermore, as Forbes points out, Intel has just announced a new list of customers including the likes of LG. We’ve known that LG is planning to go toe to toe with the likes of Qualcomm, MediaTek, and Samsung with their own mobile application processors, but we weren’t sure whether they would be going for Intel or TSMC’s processes.

It’s clear now that LG has opted for Intel, and it looks like the company will be making ARM chips for LG.
