Beeper Mini is back after Apple shutdown

Following Apple's decision to block Beeper’s iMessage for Android app, the Beeper team devised a workaround that necessitated users to send and receive texts through email. However, a new predicament emerged with the company's subsequent solution.

In an announcement on Reddit, Beeper revealed its imminent update for Beeper Cloud and Mini. Tomorrow's scheduled update will enable text messaging abilities to be regained utilizing assigned telephone numbers. Yet, to enable this feature, users will require a Mac or have a friend using Beeper with access to a Mac.

Beeper Mini operates by sending registration data to a genuine Mac, fooling an iPhone into believing it's communicating with another Apple device. Previously, the company relied on its own fleet of Mac servers for this purpose. However, Beeper acknowledged that this method made them vulnerable to Apple's scrutiny due to multiple users using the same registration data.

To counter this issue, Beeper announced its plan to generate unique registration data for individual users. The company explained:

"We've established a direct link between registration data and individual users, ensuring a robust connection based on our testing. Beeper Mini users can leverage their Mac registration data, allowing Beeper Mini to resume functionality. However, users need to periodically refresh this data, typically once a week or month, requiring regular Mac usage."

Furthermore, Beeper stated that users without a Mac could request to use a friend's Beeper registration data. They asserted that, according to their tests, 10-20 iMessage users could safely share the same registration data. Additionally, Beeper pledged to open-source its entire iMessage bridge and Mac code registration data generator, enabling users to self-host.
